  • Trump signs a new executive order reinstating the travel ban. This executive order does not include Iraq and does not include VISA holders. The new executive order lists several situations where people may be exempt from the travel ban. Trump is also stopping the refugee program from 120 days with the executive order. [Link]
  • A Saudi lobby firm funded the expensive trips of several US vets to DC to advocate against the JASTA law that would allow victims of 9/11 to sue Saudi Arabia. [Link]
  • The court case that the 9/11 victim’s families are pushing against Saudi Arabia continues to move forward. Saudi Arabia is paying 17 lobby firms $1 million per month to lobby Congress to change the JASTA law. [Link]
  • Pepsi is laying off 20% of its workforce in the areas around Philadelphia because of the new soda tax in the city. [Link]
  • House Republicans release a copy of their healthcare bill that will be a replacement for Obamacare. [Link]
  • The US is starting to deploy a new missile defense system in South Korea. The US government says the missile defense system is being put in place as a measure against North Korea, but the placement of the missile defense system will increase tensions with China. [Link]
  • North Korea carried out four ballistic missile tests today, firing the missiles in the general direction of Japan. North Korea said the missiles were practice for attacking US military bases in Japan. [Link]
  • The US continues to carry out airstrikes in Yemen. The US has identified one person killed by the strikes. The person killed was a former Gitmo detainee and was not a high valued target. [Link]
  • A Russian woman has been arrested in Turkey and accused of being in contact with the man who killed Russia’s ambassador to Turkey. [Link]
  • Turkish, Russian, and US top military officials will meet today to discuss the developing situation in Iraq and Syria. [Link]
  • The US is sending a small number of troops to join the Kurdish forces in Manbij. Turkey has demanded the Kurdish force abandon the city, but the Kurds continue to remain there. [Link]
  • Russia is sending troops to the villages around Manbij. This puts US, Russian, and Syria troops all in the same area in and around Manbij. [Link]
  • Patrick Cockburn gives an update on the situation in Syria and the likely winners and losers of the Syrian civil war. [Link]
  • The Syrian civil war is taking an extreme toll on the children of Syria. Two-thirds of whom have lost a family member, had their houses bombed, or been injured. Many children are struggling to cope with the psychological trauma this causes. Some children are suffering from PTSD or toxic stress. [Link]
